ABOUT THE BOOK
Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Hunt, Mansell, Senna, Schumacher - the very names evoke images of speed, drama and total dedication to a sport that arguably requires more skill and courage than any other. From the 1950s to the present day these matadors of speed have been drawn like moths to a flame as they risk their lives in the unrelenting pursuit of excellence. But what makes the men in the cockpits drive themselves to the limits of human endurance? Who are the people behind the drivers whose passion and dedication make Formula 1 happen?

Speed Addicts is the complete and definitive illustrated book of grand prix motor racing, told in the form of a human story. The book delves into the psyche of motor racing: the drivers - from modern day heroes like the late Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, to such legends of the past as Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham, the designers, and the team owners who have played such an important part in motor racing history.

It shows how the power structure came about and explains how that power is exercised in an ongoing war between teams, governing body and manufacturers. And it lays bare the controversies which have been a part of Formula 1 from the beginning.

Lavishly illustrated throughout with timeless photographs, and written by a leading world authority on motor racing, Speed Addicts reaches the very soul of Formula 1, bringing together every facet of this complex and utterly compelling sport.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mark Hughes, described as 'F1's Hemingway', is consultant F1 Editor of /Autosport/ and travels to every Grand Prix to relay the story to its readers. His analysis is informed not only by an encyclopaedic knowledge of the sport, but also by his extensive racing experience behind the wheel.
Mark Hughes has been fascinated by motorsport, and F1 in particular, since he was kid of six or seven. Long before writing about them, he raced cars and competed on the track with some distinction. After an eight-year grounding in reporting the sport as a staff member for Motoring News, he went freelance in 1966 and was later contracted by Autosport – the world’s most authoritative and highly respected mostorsport magazine – to be its F1 consultant editor. In this role he has covered every Grand Prix of this century and formed close relationships with drivers and engineers that have informed his work.
